About Alex

Committed to Strong Schools and Values

Alessandro (Alex) Mauro Casbarro is a dedicated public servant, non-profit leader, and small business owner with a deep commitment to his community. His passion for public service began at just 13 years old, and since then, he has built more than five years of experience across both municipal and provincial government.

Alex previously served two terms as Student Trustee for the York Catholic District School Board from 2020 to 2022. During his tenure, he led meaningful initiatives that directly supported students. He launched the Menstrual Hygiene Project, ensuring access to free menstrual hygiene products for students in need, and introduced the first board-wide Mental Health Discussion, creating space for students to learn about available supports and openly ask questions about mental health.

In December 2019, Alex co-founded Bridges of Love of York Region, a registered charity dedicated to helping seniors age safely at home with dignity and independence. Through services such as snow removal, lawn care, and home accessibility modifications, the organization helps prevent injuries, maintain mobility, and ensure seniors can safely access care and daily essentials. Its Seniors Hub addresses the growing challenge of social isolation by offering day programs with warm meals, opportunities for connection, and support for caregivers, along with intergenerational and evening programming that promotes mental, emotional, and cognitive well-being.

Alex is also the owner of DiGusto Distributing, a small business focused on the distribution of pinsa Romana, a flatbread widely recognized as a healthier alternative to traditional pizza.

He holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Toronto and is currently a candidate for a Master of Public Policy, Administration and Law at York University.
